Harry G. Kasanow, CFP® is founder and president of Kasanow & Associates: Wealth Management, a Securities and Exchange Commission registered investment advisory firm that provides Wealth Management Services including Asset Management, Retirement Accumulation and Distribution Planning as well as Comprehensive Financial Planning on a fee-only basis to individuals, businesses and trusts. Since 1999, he has assisted clients with Cross-Border Planning issues for those residing in Australia, Japan, Philippines, Taiwan and Thailand.
Harry earned the Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) designation in 1991 and was admitted to The Registry of Financial Planning Practitioners in 1993. He is a member of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) and the National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA), where he is a NAPFA Registered Fee-only Advisor. He graduated with honors from Rhode Island College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education (BS) in 1975 and a Masters of Education (MED) in 1978.
He has been selected as one of the “Wealth Manager's 10th Annual Top Wealth Managers in 2010”, "250 Best Financial Advisors in America" by Worth magazine every year since 1997 including 2002 and as “Top 100 Wealth Advisors in the USA” in 2006. He was also selected as one of the "120 Best Financial Advisors for Doctors in America" by Medical Economics magazine's July 27, 1998 issue and included as one of the "150 Best Financial Advisors for Doctors-Our Exclusive List" continuously in their 2000-2008 issues.
In 1991, in his previous career, he was nominated as Colorado State Teacher of the Year and was the Finalist honored by Governor Dick Lamm of Colorado.
Harry was the featured guest on Fox Television networks Fox On Money on August 3, 1998 broadcast live from Fox studios in New York City (see photo below). He brings 26 years of experience and a wealth of knowledge and expertise of the financial planning and investment process to serve his clients who reside in the Islands of Hawaii. Harry also serves clients who reside nationwide in 14 other states including California, Colorado, Georgia, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, Rhode Island, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin and in Taiwan.
Harry worked as a fee and commission Certified Financial Planner™(CFP®) with American Express Financial Advisors (AEFA, formerly IDS Financial Services) from 1985-1994. There he was a founding member of the prestigious Gold Team and the President's Advisory Council. He was honored as "Rookie of the Year" in 1985, "Financial Planner of the Year" in 1986, and was "Top Producer" at the Career Development Conference in 1987. He starred in various in-house teaching videos produced by IDS Studio 55, helping inexperienced financial planners understand the importance of disability income protection for clients.
He has served on various boards of charitable and non-profit organizations being deeply involved in serving his community. In 1990 he was elected President of the Hawaii Chapter of the IAFP, now the FPA, where he was a member of the Board of Directors from 1986-94 serving as Education Coordinator and Programs Director. He recently returned to the Board of Directors of the FPA Hawaii Chapter where he served as Educational Vice-President for 2002. In 1992, he acted as Investment Advisor to the Hawaii Kidney Association and the Hawaii Nature Center. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Very Special Arts Hawaii from 1992-93 and a member of the Board of Directors of the Hawaii International Film Festival in 1998, while serving on the Film Selection Committee, Development and Foundation Committees from1994-98. From 1981-84, Harry served on the Board of Directors, as Treasurer, and Fundraising Events Coordinator for Rocky Mountain Greenpeace in Colorado. For 2001-02, he served as the President of the Board of Directors of the Iona Contemporary Dance Theatre, where he presently acts as an Advisor to the Board of Directors.
Harry has served the International Association for Financial Planning (IAFP) now the FPA in Denver, Colorado for many years in various capacities. From 1997-1999, he served on the Chapter Advisory Council, the Institute for Chapter Leadership Task Force, the Faculty for Regional Chapter Leadership Training, and the Chapter Structure Task Force. From 1992-1995, he served on the Registry Advisory Council, the Foundation Investment Committee, and the Practice Knowledge Exam Advisory Task Force. He is a member and past Chair of the FPA Asia-Pacific Focus Group that is working to help the FPA insure CFP® practice standards worldwide. He was also a member of the FPA Global Advisory Council from 2002-2005.
